Music To Live By: Guided By Voices

31 Mar

These past couple of weeks, the weather has finally been giving way, inch by inch, to spring here in Mitten State. The last few days I have been filled to the brim with girlish glee at the prospect of driving with *GASP* my windows down!! And when I do dare to let the sunshine in and let a cool (more like cold) breeze drift into my car as I coast down the street (more like loosing my tires in giant gaping potholes) I like to listen to the serenely stimulating sounds of Guided By Voices.

Nothing says “good feeling” like the static rhythms of GBV. Maybe its the changing seasons that remind me of why this band is so great. Rightfully so, since they’ve changed members more than a few times (oh Robert Pollard). Inspired by cult influences of British underground, punk, progressive rock, and all things great, it’s no wonder they’ve released album after album since their start in 1983. My favorite will always be 1994’s Bee Thousand

Simply because, well, I am a big fan of the pig pen. I highly recommend giving them a listen while laying in bed, or the floor. Driving in the car is my personal favorite. Or you can be one of those people and listen to it during your early morning jog (even though I hate those people). So long as the sun is shining and the breeze is a-breezing, you really can’t go wrong. Here are some of my personal favorites to croon to when I’ve got GBV going:
